What Starback accesses
- Public GitHub stars. We read the public list of repositories a GitHub user has starred, plus each repo's public details (name, description, language, topics, star count, last activity, archived flag). Anyone can view these on GitHub.
- GitHub sign-in (optional, read-only). If you sign in, GitHub gives us a read-only token with the
user:emailscope: your username and your verified email addresses. We can't see private repos, write to your account, or act on your behalf.
What we store, and where
- Your sign-in token is kept only in an encrypted, HTTP-only cookie in your browser for up to 30 days. It is never written to a database and can't be read by page scripts.
- Cached repo details. To stay within GitHub's rate limits, our host (Vercel) caches GitHub's public responses for up to 24 hours. We keep no other copy of your stars.
- Your email, if you subscribe to the weekly digest. We store the email you pick and your GitHub username as a contact with our email provider, Resend, which sends the digest.
- “To try” and “Tried” marks are saved only in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device.
Analytics
We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views. It sets no cookies and doesn't identify or track you across sites; visitors are counted with a hash that resets daily.
What we don't do
No ad trackers, no cookies for analytics or ads, no selling or sharing your data. Sponsored placements are plain labeled links and receive no information about you.
Service providers
Vercel (hosting and analytics), GitHub (sign-in and data source) and Resend (email delivery) process data on our behalf under their own privacy policies.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe with the one-click link in any email. It takes effect immediately.
- Delete your data from your own Starback page (“Delete my data”). This removes your email contact, revokes Starback's GitHub authorization, signs you out and clears your To try / Tried marks in that browser.
- You can also revoke access any time in GitHub under Settings → Applications.
